Jarosław Majewski

Double bass player, improviser, musician-seeker for many years associated with the Polish yass scene. In the 1980s, he played in the punk bands Bułka z Prądem and Chór Wujów. Later, with Tomasz ‘Święty’ Hesse, he founded the band Wszyscy Święci, which signed up to perform at the Hyde Park anarchist rallies in Dębki-Białogóra and Lubieszewo. He took part in the first official concert in the Bydgoszcz Shell, which took place in 1989, right after the fall of socialism. He played at the first yass festival in Bydgoszcz, alongside such bands as Izaack Bromberg, Miłość, Henryk Brodaty, Synthetic Bread, Bóg i Wszyscy Święci. The name “yass” was not widely used yet.

He performed at the inauguration of the Trytony Artistic Community Center. It was then that the period of creative activities around the now legendary clubs of Trytony and Mózg in Bydgoszcz began in 1993. In 1999, Święty ‘and Rafał Gorzycki invited him to participate in recordings for the debut album of the Ecstasy Project quartet. Currently, he cooperates with the RDZA duo (with Jacek Buhl) and is a member of the free-jazz band ‘Kwartet’ with Piotr Melech, Jakub Królikowski and Jacek Buhl. He also participates in an improvised trio with Małgorzata Wrzosek and Piotr Dąbrowski.

He is a musician in the Alelale Theater ensemble. He belongs to the Warsaw Improvisers Committee. Contact, joint performances and recordings with great musician-improvisers confront his style and serve as a pretext for musical journeys. With great curiosity, Jarosław constantly looks for new, acoustic sounds in old instruments.
